Seneca College's Fashion Resource Centre comes to life!
Toronto, May 3, 2011 - Seneca College's Fashion Resource Centre brought together pillars of Canadian fashion along with some of the newest visionaries in the industry with a week-long exhibit celebrating the breadth and diversity of Canadian design from 1964 to 2011.
Dale Peers, Costume Coordinator for Seneca's Fashion Resource Centre, is pictured to the right with Marilyn Brooks cutting the ribbon for the opening of the event.
"Everything from skinny jeans by Joe Fresh to evening wear by Alfred Sung will be showcased in the "Oh Canada" exhibit," said Dale Peers. "We are also thrilled to be offering a glimpse into what inspired the designers during these pivotal years with descriptions in their own words."
"Seneca's Fashion Resource Centre is one of the most important resources in Canadian fashion today, housing more than 10,000 garments including dating from 1840 to present day," said Seneca College President David Agnew. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to invite the public in to see the garments that give our students an invaluable look at the evolution of fashion and help them prepare for success in the industry themselves."
Established in 1989, Seneca's Fashion Resource Centre boasts one of the largest and oldest fashion collections available for study, including many vintage clothing pieces designed by Canadian designers. The mandate of the Centre is to collect and preserve apparel worn by Canadians and allow individuals interested in the evolution of fashion to study, research and examine the subject in an experiential way.
